Internal medicine examinations
We have built up solid experience and high competence in internal medicine, one of the most comprehensive disciplines in veterinary medicine. Internal medicine is about diagnosing and treating diseases that affect the internal organs of animals, and our services cover the full spectrum of conditions from hormonal disorders to infectious diseases and organ failure. Our experienced team works closely with both animals and owners to ensure quick and effective treatment.

Our laboratory
An important part of internal medicine investigations is our laboratory, which is well-equipped with modern technology. This gives us the opportunity to perform a number of advanced analyses in-house, ensuring quick access to results and increasing the chances of an accurate diagnosis. Having our own laboratory at the clinic gives us the advantage of being able to provide pet owners with answers quickly, often on the same day as the samples are taken.
In our laboratory we can analyze, among other things:
- Biochemistry: We analyze a wide range of parameters that tell us something about the condition of internal organs such as the liver, kidneys and pancreas.
- Hormones: We can measure hormones such as thyroxine and fructosamine.
- Blood gases: We can measure the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen and thus the acidity of the blood. We can measure parameters that tell us what fluid therapy the animal needs. This allows us to evaluate and monitor patients thoroughly before and during surgery.
- Hematology: We can measure parameters related to the white and red blood cells in the bloodstream. We can also measure clotting time in patients with infections, bleeding or rat poison poisoning. We can also measure hematocrit.
- Urine samples: We perform a full examination of urine samples including microscopic examination. We can read urine sticks via a machine, which provides a standardized and reliable reading.
- CRP and SAA: We can measure acute phase proteins in the bloodstream – this tells us whether the animal has an ongoing infection in the body and can to some extent tell us whether the animal has an infection caused by bacteria or viruses.
- Infectious diseases: We can test for various specific infections such as Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, Heartworm, Giardia, FIV/FeLV and Parvovirus.
- Imaging diagnostics: We perform X-rays and ultrasounds.
- Microscopy: We perform microscopy of urine samples, blood cells and tumor cells. Bacterial cultivation and resistance testing can also be done.
- Prog test (progesterone test): An important test to measure progesterone levels in the blood. This test is often used to determine the optimal time for mating in dogs. By monitoring progesterone levels, we can determine the most fertile period during the estrus cycle, which increases the chances of a successful mating.
Idexx Lab
IDEXX Laboratories is a global leader in diagnostic solutions for veterinary clinics and offers a wide range of analysis machines and laboratory services that contribute to better animal health. At A-Vet small animal clinic, we use Idexx's solutions to ensure accurate and rapid analyses that support diagnoses and treatments. The systems from Idexx include advanced biochemical testing, hematology and urine sample analyses. These tools allow us to analyze several different parameters directly in the clinic, which is crucial for making an accurate diagnosis and quickly starting treatment.
Idexx has developed various machines and systems that make it possible to monitor organ function, hormone balances and blood cells in an effective way. Their machines such as IDEXX Catalyst Dx and IDEXX ProCyte Dx and SediVue offer complete diagnostic panels that help to detect early signs of disease and ensure that animals receive the best possible follow-up. In addition, we can test blood coagulation with IDEXX Coag x and blood gas with IDEXX VetStat Electrolyte Blood Gas Analyser.
Eurolyse VET-CUBE
Eurolyser VET-CUBE is an innovative diagnostic system designed specifically for veterinary practices. This compact and highly accurate machine gives veterinarians like us at A-Vet the ability to perform a number of important tests right in the clinic. VET-CUBE stands out for being user-friendly, fast and flexible and it offers diagnostic analyses that can include hormone measurements, CRP (C-reactive protein), SAA (serum amyloid A) and other biomarkers that are important for assessing the health status of the animal.
With VET-CUBE we can perform acute tests such as CRP which help us detect infections, inflammatory conditions and other serious diseases. One of the advantages of Eurolyser VET-CUBE is its ability to provide results in a short time, making it an ideal tool for rapid diagnostics and immediate treatment decisions in the clinic.
- Blood analysis: VET-CUBE can analyze important blood values such as CRP (C-reactive protein) and SAA (Serum Amyloid A), both acute phase proteins that indicate infections or inflammation in the body. This helps veterinarians differentiate between different types of infections and inflammatory conditions.
- Amylase and lipase: These enzymes can be measured to assess pancreatic function, which is important when pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) is suspected in both dogs and cats.
External lab
When we at A-Vet small animal clinic are faced with samples that we cannot analyze directly at the clinic, we collaborate with external laboratories that IDEXX og LaboklinThese laboratories offer specialized services and advanced analyses that can provide us with additional insight into more complex or rare cases. This collaboration ensures that we always have access to the best diagnostics available regardless of whether the analysis needs to be performed in-house or at our external partners.
