Eye treatments
At A-Vet Small Animal Clinic, we offer a wide range of eye treatments for your pets, performed by experienced veterinarians specializing in eye health. We know how important it is to maintain good eye health for both the prevention and treatment of eye disorders. Our clinic has advanced equipment and expertise to diagnose and treat a number of eye disorders in dogs and cats.

Gonioscopy
Gonioscopy is an important additional examination used to assess whether dogs are predisposed to glaucoma, a painful condition that leads to increased pressure in the eye. This examination is particularly important for breeds that are at high risk of developing this hereditary disorder. By identifying narrow iridocorneal angles or deformities in the pectinate ligament, we can help reduce the incidence of glaucoma in breeding dogs.

Glaucoma – Glaucoma
Glaucoma - Glaucoma is a serious and painful condition caused by increased pressure in the eye due to reduced drainage of aqueous humor. This can lead to damage to the retina and optic nerve, eventually resulting in blindness. Symptoms include a red and painful eye, enlarged pupil and reduced vision. Treatments include pressure-lowering medications, laser surgery, and in severe cases, removal of the affected eye.

Referral eye
A-Vet offers extensive expertise in ophthalmology, eye disorders and eye surgery. We receive referred patients from all over Vestfold for investigation of hereditary eye diseases, especially in connection with breeding. The clinic is modern and equipped with advanced diagnostics and treatment. Ophthalmologist Elisabeth Bjørnestad has extensive further training and accepts patients for eye examinations and surgical treatments.

How does an eye examination take place with us?
An eye examination at A-Vet involves a thorough assessment of the dog's eye health, carried out by veterinarians with special expertise in ophthalmology. We examine the layers of the eye using advanced instruments such as slit lamps, ophthalmoscopes and tonometers. Schirmer's tear test and fluorescein test are also used to assess tear fluid production and detect any damage to the cornea.

Eye surgery
Eye surgery at A-Vet Small Animal Clinic is performed by Elisabeth Bjørnestad, who has undergone further training at the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies. We offer advanced operations such as eyelid plastic surgery, removal of misaligned eye hair, cherry eye surgery and tear duct plastic surgery. With a surgical microscope, we ensure precision and quality during all interventions to ensure the best possible result for your pet.

Eye lighting of dog
Eye examination of dogs is an important examination that can reveal hereditary eye diseases and help prevent the continuation of defects in breeding. The examination includes a thorough check of the eye's external and internal structures using advanced instruments such as an ophthalmoscope and a slit lamp. We recommend eye examinations at 1, 4 and 7 years of age, as well as annually for breeding dogs.

Eye lighting for dogs other than NOX and NKK
Are you going to inspect a dog that is not registered in NOX or NKK? Before you arrive at the eye examination, you must register on the ECVO HED Platform. This platform standardizes eye examinations to identify hereditary eye diseases in dogs. The results are stored in a database that helps breeders make informed breeding choices to reduce the incidence of eye diseases.

Eye scanning and DNA testing
Eye scanning and DNA testing are important tools for detecting hereditary eye disorders in dogs. A blood test for DNA testing can reveal whether the dog is a carrier of a hereditary gene that can cause disease in the offspring. Genetic testing is a supplement to eye scanning and provides a genetic survey of the dog's health, especially for breeds with known eye disorders. The test can be performed at our clinic.

Eye disease in rabbits
Eye disease in rabbits can significantly affect the rabbit's health and quality of life. Common diseases include conjunctivitis, blocked tear ducts, uveitis, abscesses, corneal damage, cataracts and glaucoma. Infections such as Encephalitozoon Cuniculi can also lead to serious eye diseases. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are essential to protect your rabbit's vision and overall health.
Gonioscopy
Some dog breeds are more prone to developing glaucoma. Our vets offer gonioscopy, a specialized examination that can identify problems with the drainage system in the eye and prevent the development of glaucoma. This is an important additional examination for high-risk breeds.
Glaucoma – Glaucoma
Glaucoma, also known as glaucoma, is a painful condition that results in increased pressure in the eye, which can lead to vision loss. This condition affects both dogs and cats, and requires prompt treatment to avoid permanent damage to the vision. We offer advanced diagnostics and treatment of glaucoma.
Reference Eye
We receive referred patients from all over Vestfold for examination and treatment of eye disorders. With our extensive expertise in ophthalmology, eye disorders and eye surgery, we ensure thorough treatment of referred patients within ophthalmology.
How does an eye examination take place with us?
Eye examinations at A-Vet are carried out by veterinarians with special expertise in ophthalmology, which is the study of diseases of the eye. The eye is a complex organ that often requires advanced diagnostics and treatment in case of disease. Our eye examinations provide a thorough assessment of your pet's eye health.
Eyesight Of Dog
Why should your dog's eyes be examined? Loss of vision reduces the ability to communicate with the outside world. Therefore, it is important to have regular eye examinations to ensure good eye health and detect any problems early. Eye scanning is a method used to map hereditary eye diseases in dogs.
Eye lighting also for Dogs Except for NOX and NKK
We offer eye lighting for dogs that are also not registered in NOX or NKK. This is important for dog owners who want to get an assessment of their dog's eye health.
Eye scanning and DNA testing
We offer both eye scanning and DNA testing to detect hereditary eye disorders. Blood samples can be taken for DNA testing, which provides information on whether the dog is a carrier of specific genetic eye disorders. This is particularly important for certain dog breeds with known genetic eye diseases.
Eye surgery
We perform eye surgery if necessary. Our ophthalmologist, Elisabeth Bjørnestad, has undergone extensive further training at the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies in Toulouse in 2002, 2005 and 2011. She has experience with a number of eye disorders that require surgical intervention.
Eye Disease In Rabbits
Rabbits can also be affected by various eye diseases that can affect their health and well-being. We offer diagnostics and treatment of eye diseases in rabbits, with a focus on ensuring that they receive the right treatment and follow-up.
