Internal medicine examinations
We have built up solid experience and high competence in internal medicine, which is one of the most comprehensive disciplines in veterinary medicine. Internal medicine examinations are about diagnosing and treating diseases that affect the internal organs of animals, and our services cover the entire spectrum of conditions, from hormonal disorders to infectious diseases and organ failure. Our experienced team works closely with both animals and owners to ensure fast and effective treatment.

Our laboratory
An important part of internal medicine investigations is our laboratory, which is well equipped with modern technology. This gives us the opportunity to carry out a number of advanced analyzes in-house, which ensures quick access to results and increases the chances of an accurate diagnosis. Having our own laboratory at the clinic gives us the advantage of being able to give pet owners answers quickly, often on the same day that the samples are taken.
In our laboratory, we can analyze, among other things
- Biochemistry: We analyze a wide range of parameters that tell something about the condition of internal organs such as the liver, kidneys and pancreas.
- Hormones: We can measure hormones such as thyroxine and fructosamine.
- Blood gases: We can measure the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen, and thus the degree of acidity, in the blood. We can measure parameters that tell us which liquid treatment the animal needs. This gives us the opportunity to evaluate and monitor patients thoroughly before and during operations.
- Hematology: We can measure parameters related to the bloodstream's white and red blood cells. We can also measure the coagulation time in patients with infections, bleeding or rat poison poisoning. We can also measure hematocrit.
- Urine samples: We carry out a full examination of urine samples, including microscopic examination. We can use a machine to read urine sticks, which gives a standardized and safe reading.
- CRP og SAA: We can measure acute phase proteins in the bloodstream - this tells us if the animal has an ongoing infection in the body, and can to some extent tell us if the animal has an infection caused by bacteria or viruses.
- Infectious diseases: We can test for various specific infections such as Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, Heartworm, Giardia, FIV/FeLV and Parvovirus.
- Imaging: We perform X-rays and ultrasounds.
- Microscopy: We perform microscopy of urine samples, blood cells and tumor cells.
Cultivation of bacteria and resistance studies can also be done. - Prog test (progesterone test), which is an important test to measure the level of progesterone in the blood. This test is often used to determine the optimal time for mating in dogs. By monitoring the progesterone level, we can determine the most fertile period of the cycle, which increases the chances of a successful mating.
Idexx Lab
IDEXX Laboratories is a global leader in diagnostic solutions for veterinary clinics, and offers a wide range of analysis machines, etcg laboratory services that contribute to better animal health. At A-Vet small animal clinic, we use Idexx's solutions to ensure accurate and fast analyzes that support diagnoses and treatments. The systems from Idexx include advanced biochemical testing, hematology and urinalysis. These tools give us the opportunity to analyze several different parameters directly in the clinic, which is crucial for making a precise diagnosis and being able to start treatment quickly.
Idexx has developed various machines and systems that make it possible to monitor organ function, hormone balances and blood cells in an efficient way. Their machines, such as IDEXX Catalyst Dx and IDEXX ProCyte Dx and SediVue offer complete diagnostic panels, which help to detect early signs of disease and ensure that the animals receive the best possible follow-up. In addition, we can test blood coagulation with the IDEXX Coag x and blood gas with the IDEXX VetStat Electrolyte Blood Gas Analyser.
Eurolyse VET-CUBE
The Eurolyser VET-CUBE is an innovative diagnostic system designed specifically for veterinary practices. This compact and highly accurate machine gives veterinarians like us at A-Vet the opportunity to carry out a number of important tests right at the clinic. VET-CUBE stands out for being user-friendly, fast and flexible, and it offers diagnostic analyzes that can include hormone measurements, CRP (C-reactive protein), SAA (serum amyloid A), and other biomarkers important to assess the animal's health health status.
With VET-CUBE, we can carry out acute tests such as CRP, which help us detect infections, inflammatory conditions and other serious illnesses. One of the advantages of the Eurolyser VET-CUBE is its ability to provide results in a short time, making it an ideal tool for rapid diagnosis and immediate treatment decision in the clinic.
- Blood analysis: VET-CUBE can analyze important blood values such as CRP (C-reactive protein) and SAA (Serum Amyloid A), both acute-phase proteins that indicate infections or inflammation in the body. This helps veterinarians distinguish between different types of infections and inflammatory conditions.
- Amylase and lipase: These enzymes can be measured to assess the function of the pancreas, which is important when pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) is suspected in both dogs and cats.
External lab
When we at A-Vet small animal clinic are faced with samples that we cannot analyze directly at the clinic, we collaborate with external laboratories that IDEXX og Laboklin. These laboratories offer specialized services and advanced analyzes that can give us additional insight into more complex or rare cases. This collaboration ensures that we always have access to the best diagnostics available, regardless of whether the analysis has to be carried out at the clinic or with our external partners.
